Job description:
The job is a customer-service job for a whale-watch company. Participants work in both ticket sales and in retail sales. These are both located in the office at Lopes Sq. in Province town, but each has its own area within the office. There is a computer program for selling whale-watch tickets and a different program for selling retail items. Both programs accommodate credit cards and cash and both are pretty simple to use. We have in-person interactions with our customers and our co-workers at this location. In ticket sales, we give customers information about our whale-watch trips (we do up to 10 trips each day in July and August), about our boats (run 4 boats in July and August) and about the whales and other marine life they are likely to see on our trips. Answering customers’ questions and giving them directions to boats are also frequent parts of the job. Using the computer system, participants make reservations for the customer for the trip, do the payment transaction and print out the tickets. Ticket sales also has a tiny satellite location on the pier where our boats are docked. The job duties there are similar to the ones described above. In retail sales, we help customers find products in the gift shop area, answer their questions, enter the items customers purchase into the retail computer, do the payment transactions and put the purchased items into bags. When stock has gotten low in the gift shop, we replace it from the inventory kept on second floor of the building. Depending on each day’s schedule, some staff members will be responsible for opening the Lopes Sq. location and some will be responsible for closing it at night. Every staff person should participate in keeping the area neat and clean. Every staff member must be fluent in English in order to converse with our customers; have a friendly, helpful attitude; have good work ethics and be able to work cooperatively with other staff members – both American and European
